Librarian Anniversary Again
Today is the ninth anniversary of my graduation from library school. Last year I suggested links to help you read up on librarianship as a career. This year I’m feeling much less serious and suggest you consider a novel about libraries or librarians.
Search SUNCAT for these subjects:
- Libraries—Fiction
- Librarians—Fiction
- Women Librarians—Fiction (In case you were wondering, there is no “Men Librarians—Fiction.”)
I’m interested in “The Borrower” by Rebecca Makkai, “The Bad Book Affair: A Mobile Library Mystery” by Ian Sansom, and “The Camel Bookmobile” by Masha Hamilton.
And, if you’d like to find even more instances of librarians in fiction, take a look at “Librarians in Fiction: A Critical Bibliography” by Grant Burns.

*If you’re thinking that I make up a lot of my own “special days” to celebrate, you don’t know the half of it! I celebrate birthdays, holidays, the day I got my bicycle, the day I first saw the Atlantic Ocean, the first time I used a computer, the day “Star Trek” premiered on television, and on and on and on. Every day really can be a holiday—both official and personal—if you make it one.
