The Golden Globe
Before leaving for work this morning, I watched the last half hour of a documentary (“Deep Water”) about the first solo, nonstop sailing race around the world: The Sunday Times Golden Globe Race from 1968 and 1969. The race did not end well for most of the participants.
I’m usually fascinated by stories of real adventures, both those that turn out well and those that don’t. When things go well for adventurers, I think, “I can’t believe they did that! I could never.” When things don’t go well, I think, “I can’t believe they did that! I could never.”
Per usual and since I only saw part of the documentary, I searched SUNCAT for more information on the Golden Globe and its participants. Here’s what I found:
- The Long Way by Bernard Moitessier
- A Voyage for Madmen by Peter Nichols
- The Longest Race by Hal Roth
For even more information, I searched two of the library’s databases: Proquest and InfoTrac.
With the combination of SUNCAT and library databases, you and I can at least start our research on almost any topic!
